For this first step, it’s often interesting to learn about how to find your target audience for your blog.
Every blog has an audience, and you will want to write content that is made specifically for your audience.
Think about who you want to write for.
What kind of content do they want to read?
What kind of content do you like to read?
What are the topics you will want to write about, to make your audience happy?
You will want to define your blog’s unique value proposition.
The unique value proposition, also known as the unique selling proposition or USP, is all about what you bring to the internet that is different and unique.
It’s also known as your blog differentiation.
For me, I differentiate and find my unique value proposition by not only writing about blogging and affiliate marketing, but also writing about empowerment and entrepreneurship.
I have done a lot of work in the world of helping people – read: charities – and I have also started a few successful businesses.
So, I defined my blog’s unique value proposition by saying that I would write about empowerment, entrepreneurship, and be a resource for people with information about business tools, blogging, and affiliate marketing – you’ve got to make the money.
Business tools, blogging, and affiliate marketing – these topics make money.
A blog niche is really the subject matter of your blog.
Some people are fashion bloggers and choose the niche of fashion to focus on their blog.
Some people are mommy bloggers and choose the niche of “mommy blogging”.
Some people are sports bloggers and choose the niche of sports.
For the purpose of attaining success in your blogging exploits, my recommendation is this:
When you select your niche, oftentimes the niche of you is perfect.

Then, you can pivot from topic to topic and it’s still central to your life and your name.
The benefit of a focused niche is that your blog will have more of a purpose.
You will be able to identify content topics to write about more easily after you have established a focused niche.
With a focused niche, your blog gains an identity, and you can build a more established readership.
You can also sign up this readership to a niche focused email list and promote products to them that pay you a commission for each sale.
You can identify profitable niches by looking at Amazon.com, and seeing what products are really selling a lot.
So, fashion is obviously profitable, because of all the clothing sales.
Counterintuitively, books are not a very profitable niche, because Amazon only pays 4% commission, and most books are only $20 – meaning you wouldn’t make more than $1 a book for a recommendation.
And $1 isn’t going to pay your grocery bills.
But what you can do is look at various blogs and see what they’re linking to.

Now, we’ve reached Step 2.
Step 2 is all about choosing a blogging platform.
Most of you will likely choose WordPress.
My blog at QuickBlogProfit.com is built on WordPress.
WordPress is fairly easy to install and is the #1 choice for bloggers everywhere.
Some of you will want the ease of Wix, which is a little different from WordPress.
Wix is nice, and lets you customize very easily.
Wix also has a blog feature.
Weebly is another choice for many bloggers.
Weebly partners with Square, the business tools platform from the founder of Twitter.
So Weebly really understands the web and content, in general.
All 3 are great, but I prefer WordPress.
Let me explain.
I think you should choose WordPress because it’s the #1 blogging platform.
Most bloggers use WordPress, and if you visit a blog, chances are it’s powered by WordPress
WordPress is compatible with most major web hosting providers – I recommend HostGator or BlueHost – and it’s really easy to install WordPress with HostGator or BlueHost and other major web hosting companies.
WordPress lets you publish posts and pages.
The article you are reading now is a post.
It’s really self-explanatory to publish on WordPress.
All you do is install WordPress from your web hosting provider – I recommend HostGator or BlueHost – and then you can quickly get started blogging.
It’s not necessarily the most visually beautiful option.
But then there’s Elementor, which lets you customize your WordPress site.
So, all said, WordPress is a great choice, and it’s my #1 choice for my blog, as well.

If you are on the fence about choosing WordPress or its competitor, Wix, then I’ll explain why I think both are good options, but very different.

Wix is the Honda.
And Weebly is Kia.
Naturally speaking, some of you don’t buy American, but you should!
That’s a different point, though.
Sorry, I’m from Detroit.
The point here is that WordPress is the choice of probably 90% of pro bloggers, and you will absolutely love using it, with no worries of any kind.
Blogger is a different platform, more suited to websites than to blogging.
Blogger does have a blogging feature, and I have used it, and it is good.
Pretty much a quality software product.
That said, WordPress is the #1 standard for bloggers.
I find WordPress very easy to use, and I don’t have any problem with it whatsoever.
Even when I started blogging 15 years ago, I didn’t have any issues with WordPress.
Plus, it’s much easier to use now than ever before.
You simply install WordPress for free on your web host – HostGator or BlueHost being my choice – and you’re off to the races building a blog that can appeal to your readers and earn you a tidy profit along the way.
Blogger isn’t bad for SEO.
It’s actually pretty good for SEO.
Blogger works differently from WordPress, and Wix has scripts that you can install to enhance your SEO effectiveness.
With WordPress, you simply add in plugins – with one click – and then you have SEO.
WordPress SEO plugins that I like are the All-in-One SEO plugin, or Yoast SEO.
They make a big difference for your blog’s potency.
Blogger is great for SEO.
But WordPress is still better for SEO than any other platform.
If you want to get your blog and its articles ranked on the search engines, then you will want to go with WordPress.
If you are a beginner blogger, you face a choice.
Do you want simplicity of interface, or do you want to be a professional blogger who earns profit from his posting?
If you want an easy interface, then Wix is great.
But if you want to be a pro blogger and make money blogging online, then go with WordPress.
WordPress is very simple, too.
Truly, I’d say that 90% of you are going to choose WordPress.
It’s the ratio that I would say makes the most sense.
WordPress is the blogging platform best suited for beginner bloggers.
The other blogging platforms, Wix and Weebly, are newcomers and still are establishing their traction.
I like Wix, and Weebly is certainly impressive, but WordPress is the clear winner as the blogging platform of choice for the beginner blogger.
The difference between WordPress, Wix, and Weebly is the interfaces.
WordPress has the best and most intuitive interface.
Wix has an easy interface but is still new for beginners.
Most beginner bloggers should go with WordPress, which you install through your HostGator or BlueHost web hosting.
Weebly is nice too but is mostly untested and not as vetted.

Because of that fact, it’s an easy choice to install WordPress with your web host – I chose HostGator or BlueHost for simplicity, ease of use, and price.
Weebly is not bad, either.
All these tools are pretty easy to use.
But you’d be in a small minority of users on the internet if you were to use Weebly.
If you are a beginner blogger who is serious about making profit blogging online, then you will certainly want to use WordPress.
Step 3: Choose A Web Hosting Platform for Beginner Bloggers

Some people want to pay $30 a month for a premium product.
For those bloggers, I would say your best choice is Kinsta.
Kinsta is a great WordPress web hosting service built for bloggers who use WordPress.
As usual, you can install WordPress in 1 click.
It’s a premium web hosting offering, and features faster load time, 99.99% uptime, and is a smoother, cleaner experience.
If money were no object, I’d use Kinsta.
However, money is an object, so I recommend HostGator or BlueHost for bloggers, especially beginner bloggers who want to blog for profit.
Many small business owners want to know what web hosting is exactly?
Similar to a house, the domain name is the address of the house, and the web hosting is the property of the house that you rent from.
So, your domain name is the URL address – which is rented from domain registrars.
And web hosting is the physical server space on the internet where your website files will exist.
If you can afford the $30 a month to $99 a month, then go with Kinsta, which is a more premium experience and is a little nicer.
I think that Kinsta makes more sense for businesses with at least $20,000 to $40,000 in budget.

I searched the internet on this one, and I wasn’t able to find completely free web hosting.
However, if you are really on a tight budget, I found a company called Namecheap that has web hosting for $1.58 a month if you can buy for 2 years up front, or $1.98 if you buy for 1 year up front.
HostGator or BlueHost competes at $2.95 per month for 1 year paid up front.
There’s lots of freebies on the internet, so when you sign up with HostGator or BlueHost, you do get a free domain name for 1 year.
I’ve used Namecheap before, and it’s not bad.
It’s not super-fast with the Stellar hosting I previously described, but I really like Namecheap because they have VPS hosting – warning – not for beginners.
I have Namecheap VPS hosting powering this blog, and I pay around $500 a year for the privilege of hosting this website and some of my other web properties.
I will caution you that VPS hosting is not only expensive, but it also requires technical expertise.
It’s not so easy to use, but it’s very fast internet and it’s great after you put in the leg work of setting it all up.
So – free web hosting for bloggers.
Namecheap is as cheap as it gets for hosting on the internet.
If you can afford 1 more dollar a month, then get HostGator or BlueHost.
It’s the best bang for the buck and it gets you on the internet with a WordPress powered website very quickly.
If you are getting started as a beginner blogger who wants to blog for profit, then WordPress web hosting, also known as managed WordPress hosting, is the safest choice.
It’s made with WordPress users in mind.
To be sure, this whole web hosting thing is one of those must haves for blogging.

Personally, they are both great and I like them both.
HostGator or BlueHost is perfect for a beginner blogger on a budget.
Kinsta is great for a person with a little more money.
Less of a shoestring budget, and more has plenty of money to start with.
Kinsta is possibly better, but the big web hosting companies all have offers that start around $3 to $10 a month, and they are good enough.
Still, for most of you, HostGator or BlueHost is an easy choice because it’s got more customers and it’s used by so many pro bloggers.
Well, they both start with managed WordPress hosting.
Kinsta is definitely a premium product, but I am writing to you about it because, hey, you might have some money, and then you can get a better product than the majority!
But that is an interesting point, because the majority of the people on this site are going to choose HostGator or BlueHost, and that’s certainly good enough.
HostGator or BlueHost is a top selling web hosting company, and I recommend it thoroughly.
HostGator or BlueHost is certainly good for small business web hosting.
If you want to pay a little more than the $2.95 a month starting expense, there are plenty of great options for small business that HostGator or BlueHost offers.

You can have unlimited websites, with unlimited traffic, all for less than $6 a month.
It’s the best deal on the internet as far as I can tell.
To be sure, this is ideal for bloggers, too, because many bloggers want 10 – 40 websites all generating income for them.
The same can be true for small business.
HostGator or BlueHost Business Plan lets you install WordPress on as many sites as you want, and it’s very easy to use.
So, to answer your question, HostGator or BlueHost is good for small business web hosting.
How much does web hosting cost for bloggers?
For bloggers, web hosting is going to cost from $3 a month to $30 a month, depending on your plan.
Most of you should get the Business Plan from HostGator or BlueHost, for $6 a month.
It’s the best scenario, because you can have as many blogs and websites as you want, all from one hosting platform.
Some bloggers have a website for every profitable niche, and that could net you a tidy sum of profit.
Naturally, it takes time to build your online blogs, and you should factor that in.
But if you can spend your time building your blog, because you’re doing great in life and you have your basic necessities already covered, then you’ll be in great shape.
Web hosting shouldn’t be a big worry for you.
You’ll need web hosting to host your WordPress installation.
But there’s good news in that when you sign up for HostGator or BlueHost, you get a free domain on the house.

After you’ve decided on a profitable blog niche, then you’re ready to choose a domain name.
You might have a word, such as Alchemy, or Precision, or Perfect, that precedes the remainder of your domain name.
So, if you were working at a marketing agency, you could say AlchemyMarketing.com.
If you are building a blog in the fitness category, you could say BestShapeFitness.com.
If you’re building your blog based on the blog niche of you, then you might say AlisonFrederick.com.
There are many great domains out there that are still available for sale.
If you want a domain name, check to make sure that it’s still available.
Get your domain name for free when you sign up for hosting with HostGator or BlueHost.
The easiest and free way to get a domain name is to wait until you are signing up for web hosting with HostGator or BlueHost.
When you sign up for web hosting with HostGator or BlueHost, then as you sign up you can enter your domain name and get it for free for a year.
Keep in mind that with domains, you lease your domain from the registrar, and you have to pay every year to keep it up.
There’s no such thing as buying a domain for life.
So, the first year is free with HostGator or BlueHost, and that saves you $20 right off the bat.
There are other cheap ways to buy domains, such as buying the domain from GoDaddy or Google Domains.
I used to do that for a long time, until I started to register my domain when signing up for web hosting, because that’s more optimized.
Getting a free domain name for your blog is as easy as going to HostGator or BlueHost, signing up for some hosting package, and while you’re signing up, getting a free domain.
Usually, a blog domain name will cost you around $20 a year from the domain registrars.
Some domain extensions, such as .co, .io, and .tech are a little more expensive, and might cost up to $60 a year.
Blog domain names are often free when you sign up for a free domain as you buy web hosting.
Typically, it’s smart to shell out $100 to get your domain name situation handled for 5 years.
In this way, you gain market recognition because your domain is guaranteed to stay on the internet for a longer period.
You can buy domain names for up to 10 years, and that’s smart, too, because then you can focus on building your profitable blog.
I am sure that .com is the standard TLD, or top-level domain.
.com and .co are called TLDs.
In my opinion, you can’t do any better than .com.
It’s the industry standard, and that works, every time.
While you surf the web later today, take a look at the TLDs of the sites that you are visiting.
Chances are, most of them are .com.
If you see .co, then great, but those blogs are few and far between.
You’ll want to find a unique domain name as a .com rather than buy a .co when the .com is taken.
That could create some consternation, when people want to visit your blog but end up with the .com site instead.
Generally, .com is better, and you will always want to have a .com to cover the bases while you build your profitable blog.
Yes, you can use Google to buy domains, though this didn’t always used to be true.
Google Domains is the new thing, and I have already built a couple websites with it to test it out.
They use Google Sites to power their websites, which is a website platform that I think is great but not nearly as powerful as WordPress.
It’s still really cool, though.
You can still connect your Google Domain with BlueHost, which is recommended as an external hosting option for if you want to use WordPress.
Again, WordPress is the gold standard for blogging, and if you’re blogging for profit, you’ll want to be blogging on WordPress.
So, you can use Google to buy domains with Google Domains, and I like it a lot.
It’s really easy to use and I think you’ll dig it.
You can buy domain names from GoDaddy or Google Domains.
There are plenty of other options that you can find online, but those two are the ones that I’ve used the most.
Still, you can get a free domain when you sign up for web hosting with HostGator or BlueHost.
You can also buy domain names directly from HostGator or BlueHost, which is excellent for if you want to host with them.
Domain names are available at stores found everywhere on the internet.
But this online course recommends GoDaddy, Google Domains, HostGator or BlueHost.
There are many ways to come up with a good domain name.
The first and best way to come up with a good domain name is to link your domain name to your chosen blog niche.
It’s important to choose a domain name that’s creative, short, and memorable.
You want a domain name that is unique, and something that’s catchy and easy to remember.
Google Domains has listed many factors in making a good domain name, including:
- Brand Name
- Website Name
- Good, Not Perfect
You want as short a domain name as possible.
You want a simple domain name, so you can call it to mind as quickly as possible.
You might want to put in a keyword or two into your domain name.
My domain, QuickBlogProfit.com, features a keyword: blog profit.
You want to build a brand with your domain name.
And don’t worry about getting a perfect domain name.
Perfect is the enemy of the Good.
Getting a good domain name is good enough.
Step 5: Start Your Blog on WordPress with One Action and Install Plugins
Now that you’ve completed the first 4 chapters in this online course on Profitable Blogging (For Beginners), the next step is to take the action to start your blog on WordPress!
This is an exciting step, because it’s the step where you actually install WordPress and start blogging.
It’s so easy to do this, so without wasting any attention span, let’s get started with the info.
This section presumes that you already have signed up for HostGator or BlueHost.
If you haven’t then before you do anything else, sign up for HostGator or BlueHost.
After you have signed up and completed your account activation, here’s what you do to install WordPress.
First, you log into your HostGator account.
Then, you click on Create Website.
Next, you click on Get Started.
What happens is that HostGator automatically installs WordPress, giving you a username and password – write those down for sure!
What I notice is that it takes you to a temporary domain first.
In order to get your WordPress blog directed to yourdomain.com, what you need to do is adjust the name servers.
To do this, you go to the website of the company where you bought your domain.
Then, you go to DNS.
Then, you go to Nameservers.
Next, you type in the nameservers given to you by HostGator.
After 20 minutes or so – and possibly, up to 48 hours for some people – your site will be directed to yourdomain.com.
Here’s a video that shows you how to install on HostGator.
For BlueHost, the process is very similar.
I don’t have a video for BlueHost, but see if you can find one from BlueHost India!
They do a good job showing you how to do it.
Again, you’ll need to adjust your nameservers with your domain registrar so that you can place your WordPress blog on yourdomain.com.
We described how to do that earlier in the section.
If you have any trouble whatsoever, call BlueHost tech support, which is the best in the business, and you can get started right away.
They have all the answers you need!
If you want to install a WordPress theme, then all you do is open up your WordPress blog with the username and password that you were given when you installed WordPress.
This should take you to your dashboard, also known as yourdomain.com/wp-admin
Then, go to the Appearance tab.
Hover over Appearance and click Themes.
Click Add New Theme to get a bunch of beautiful themes that you can choose from.
Or, if you bought a theme, and you have the file for the theme, then you can click Add New at the top, and install your theme that way.
Either way, you are well on your way to blogging with WordPress!
If you still haven’t gotten your domain, for free, then go to HostGator or BlueHost and sign up for a hosting package!
It’s very easy to install a WordPress plugin.
WordPress plugins are valuable additions to your website and can help with site speed, SEO, and analytics – and more!
You go to your WordPress dashboard, and you click on Plugins.
Then, you click on Add New.
There, you can search for new plugins, or find plugins that you want to install.
When you have a plugin you want to install, you click Install, and then Activate when the plugin is installed!

In chapter 6 of our 10-chapter course Profitable Blogging for Beginners, we’ll look now at choosing a theme for your WordPress blog.
The theme is a blog design.
The way it looks.
There are many great themes out there, some free and some premium that require you to shell out up to $300 for a theme.
When you are ready to choose a WordPress theme, you might go the free route, or you might go the premium route!
There are a bevy of free themes available to you on WordPress.com.
There are also plenty of themes available within your WordPress dashboard.
There’s no right answer as to whether to go free or premium.
I have seen blogs with free themes succeed beyond measure, and I have seen blogs with premium themes flounder.
There’s no right answer.
I’d say, start out with a free theme, such as Twenty Twenty Three, and as you gain web visitors over the coming months, you can switch to a premium theme that is to your liking.
The Genesis theme is the best WordPress theme on the internet today.
Step 7: Create Blog Content with Posts, Pages, and Plugins
Now that you have reached the 7th chapter, take a moment to congratulate yourself!

In the following sections, you’ll learn how to blog consistently, how to write a post, and how to structure your site.
You will also learn about various plugins that are great for SEO and blog analytics.
Without further ado, let’s get started.
The key to success with blogging is to set a consistent schedule.
So many bloggers work hard for a week, and then quit.
I’ve seen it many times with small businesses, and even middle-market companies.
They start working on it, and then they quit.
Then they say, “Blogging doesn’t work!”
Well, it does work.
Blogging works very nicely, especially when you add working on your blog into your daily or weekly life.
Keep blogging on a consistent schedule that you set for yourself, and you’ll be very happy with your results.
Most WordPress sites should have a few pages that are the same for everyone.
If you are building a popular blog, you might also want a Start Here Page, where you introduce your readers to your blog and its most popular content.
The key to remember is that you want a few core pages that explain your site, and then you populate your site with great renewable content that you can update for years.
Some blogs have site pages that are static, filled with rich content.
That’s a smart strategy, and I’ve seen it work.
However, if the majority of your content is in the form of blog posts, then you are on the right track.
There are so many ways to write a blog post on WordPress.
My best answer is that, for a 500-word article, you’ll want these sections in your post:
- Introduction (100 words)
- Section 1 (100 words)
- Section 2 (100 words)
- Section 3 (100 words)
- Summary (100 words)
Each blog post should be based on a keyword for which you want to rank on Google and Bing.
Make sure to have a keyword for each article and use it 10 or so times throughout the article.
Be sure to have your keyword in the first sentence of the article, as well as in article headings for Section 1, 2, and 3.
In your main sections, try to be informative, educational, and with a personal tone that conveys your writing voice.
In summary, be sure to make a call to action – CTA.
My favorite call to action is to sign up for the email list.
As a pro blogger who blogs for profit, you are going to want to build an email list over the years that will have thousands of subscribers in your prime.
Then, you can email your subscribers about affiliate offers, and this makes very good money – possibly 40% of your overall earnings.
A WordPress page is a static document.
Consider the pages the core foundation of your site.
WordPress posts are the blog posts that make up the majority of your web content.
You can get ranked on Google and Bing for both pages and posts.
My recommendation is that you write posts for the key content that you want to monetize.
All In One SEO is a great tool for SEO when you want to get your blog content ready for the search engines.
First, you will want to follow all instructions, to get all the green checkboxes.
When there is something missing, for example not enough keyword density, or not enough photos, or even a missing meta tag for a photo, then be sure to insert all that into your blog post.
You’ll want a score of 80% or higher if you want to rank on Google and Bing.
Be sure to add a meta description of 160 characters in length or less.
Optimize with respect to the app, and you’ll be doing well.
Yoast SEO is very similar to All-In-One.
Both tools work very similarly.
You’ll insert your keyword, and then optimize your article to make sure you have keywords in your headings, photos with meta tags, and an updated meta description.
The meta description is what people read about the article when they see you on Google.
As usual, follow all instructions from the plugin and get to a score of 80 or higher for each article.
Google Site Kit is a great plugin made by Google to link your blog to Google Analytics.
There are so many great features in Google Site Kit.
For example, you can see how many people are visiting your blog every month.
You can also see how they found your site, whether from a Google search, social media, or direct typing.
You can also see your highest performing content and see how many web visitors you gained because of it.
Google Site Kit is a must-have plugin, and I highly recommend you use it.
How to use MonsterInsights to keep track of your blog analytics.
MonsterInsights is very similar to Google Site Kit, and you should use it often.
There is a premium version of MonsterInsights, and it’s very valuable to purchase.
If you do, you get premium analytics about your blog.
In addition, it unlocks a certain amount of web traffic and could help you with your search engine rankings as a result.
MonsterInsights is so easy.
You log in, link your site to MonsterInsights, and then you get a beautiful analytics dashboard.
Splurge on the premium for MonsterInsights and all the plugins mentioned, if you have the money.
Doing so really unlocks superior business results with respect to traffic and sales.
How to use WPForms to create a beautiful contact page.
WPForms is a nice little plugin that I have used to create contact boxes, and lead intake forms.
It integrates nicely with the WordPress design, and you can add these forms very easily to your website.
There is a pro version of WPForms that helps unlock sales and traffic.
How to use OptInMonster to convert blog visitors to subscribers.
OptInMonster is a nice little tool for getting email subscribers.
I personally use ConvertKit, and recommend that you do so as well, either that or Aweber.
Aweber is great for affiliate marketers and bloggers alike and is a great purchase to unlock traffic and sales.
Same with OptInMonster, though with ConvertKit I am seeing that the subscribers are really there for you, and they have nicer opt-in boxes.
So, get OptInMonster, and get ConvertKit, and get Aweber, and then see which tool you like the most.
Step 8: Optimize Your Blog for SEO And Monetize Your Blog
Optimizing your blog for SEO is so crucial to blogging for profit.
You’re going to want to rank each article on Google for the keyword that you choose.
When you have your articles ranked on Google, you will experience a flood of traffic to your site, and then you get to monetize your site with referral offers and an email list to exponentially multiply your profits.
This section covers how to do SEO for your site and pages and posts, and – how to monetize your blog.
There’s a lot of money for you to make by reading this section, so be sure to read everything.

How to optimize your blog for SEO.
There are 4 key components to SEO.
- Keyword Research
- The Way You Write Your Content
- On-Page Optimization
- Off-Page Optimization (Backlinks)
First, you do keyword research to identify the keywords you will create blog posts for.
Next, you write your content one post at a time, with several keywords in each article, as well as a top keyword that is the basis of your article.
Third, you do on-page optimization, usually with your SEO plugin as a guide.
Assuming you use All-In-One SEO, there will be a lot of guidance from the plugin as to how to do your on-page optimization for your blog post.
You’ll edit and update the meta description.
You’ll add meta tags to your images.
You’ll add keywords to your article H2 titles.
You’ll add internal links, and external links to each article.
Finally, you build backlinks from other blogs to your website and articles, usually by leaving blog comments that get approved because they add consistent value to the blogs where you comment.
How to write a blog post that gets ranked on Google.
In order to write a blog post that gets ranked on Google, you want a good title.
You’ll want to outline your article, so you know what you’re writing about, and your article gets more consistent.
You will certainly want to use an SEO plugin such as All in One SEO, and then do all the on-page optimization to achieve a good score of 80 or better, and green lights everywhere.
For most articles, you’ll write 500 words.
For summary articles, you’ll write 2000 words or more.
These articles get ranked more easily.
You’ll want to link to your articles from your blog posts, and each time you do this, this helps with SEO and keeps users on your site for longer.
Finally, you write for your audience in mind, and also write with the knowledge that the search engine reads your article, too – so it’s a little of both.
What is the difference between on-site and off-site SEO?
On-site SEO is the work of optimizing your web content to be more in congruence with the search engines and their rules for what gets ranked.
Off-site SEO is the work of getting links to your website from other sites – called backlinks.
There are many great ways to get backlinks.
First of all, you can leave comments on people’s blogs.
Those count as backlinks and don’t take too much effort.
Second, you can post your blog on social media pages.
When they get shared, that registers as a social signal to the search engine and confers SEO value.
Third, you can accept guest posts on your blog.
Whenever someone writes a guest post on your blog, they can link back to that article and – voila! – you get a backlink.
Fourth, you can do a press release with Newswire.
For $599, you can do a digital press release that sends your press release – with your URL – to thousands of digital publications.
On-site is all about optimizing your blog posts.
Off-site is the creative work of getting links back to your site.
How to do keyword research for your blog.
Keyword research is the most important area of work for your blog.
The work of keyword research is especially important for both SEO and pay-per-click (PPC) advertising on Google and Bing.
Keyword research is all about identifying keywords that you think you can reach with a blog post or piece of content.
You find the keywords, and then you turn them into blog content for your blog.
Some keywords are more valuable than others.
There are 4 types of keywords:
- Commercial – looking up brands or services
- Informational – looking for an answer to a specific question
- Navigational – looking to find a specific site or page
- Transactional – looking to make a purchase or transaction
When you do keyword research, you want to factor in how many searches the keyword gets per month.
A smart SEO will write at least one article per keyword, and sometimes many depending on how in-depth you want your blog to be.
How to monetize your blog with affiliate marketing.
Monetizing your blog is the key to going from having a blog to making money blogging in 2023.
The easiest way to monetize your blog is probably affiliate marketing.
With affiliate marketing, you sign up for affiliate programs from various brands and companies.
With an affiliate program, you earn a commission for every sale that you generate.
The way to keep track of this is with the affiliate tracking link that the affiliate brand gives you in their dashboard.
You get a specific link, at brand.com/12345abc
Then, you promote your link on your blog, usually as a call to action – CTA.
You can also promote affiliate links through email marketing, as you build your list of email subscribers – we use ConvertKit.

It’s important to get a little strategic and creative about doing this.

You can make both conversions (sales), and get some email subscribers, as well.
It’s a great opportunity.
The sky is the limit, and it only takes a few thousand in spend to make some real money.
