For the pros, it’s all about establishing a focused blog niche.
Then, stay within the boundaries of the blog niche they have chosen.

It’s the difference between working for a small software company and working for Apple.
I’m not saying I’m Apple material (hey Apple, want to hire me?) but I really think that having a focused blog niche gets better results – more readership, more referrals, bigger email list, more sales.
If you are serious about blogging for profit, then you’ll want a focused blog niche so that you can really get success.
Starting With Marketing To Reach A Focused Blog Niche
Let’s start with marketing as an example.
Marketing is a broad topic.
There’s marketing strategy, marketing theory, and marketing tactics.
Within marketing there’s digital marketing, and field marketing – events, trade shows, etc.
Within digital marketing there’s social media, SEO, content marketing, PPC on Google AdWords, email marketing, inbound marketing, lead generation, and more!
It is a great idea to find your blog niche based on big referral programs.
For the sake of my audience, I’m going to go with Social Media.
If you wanted to start a blog with the niche of marketing, then narrowing your niche to social media is a great way to have a focused blog niche and really get traction in the marketplace.
That’s another way of saying blog differentiation.
Within social media, there’s so much to write about.
You could talk about Facebook, or Facebook Ads, or social media strategy.
You could probably write 1,000 posts about social media, and still have more to say after.
The reason I bring this up is because when you narrow your focus to a focused blog niche, you get audiences who are more specific with what they’re looking for.
You will want to identify your blog value proposition or USP.
All of a sudden, you have readership on your blog who interactively engages with your content and subscribes to your email list.

Find Your Focused Blog Niche, Then Do Thought Leadership
We started with marketing in the last thought game.
Now, let’s choose a different topic within digital marketing: lead generation.
Lead generation is little discussed in the digital marketing community, but it is ever so important.
If you are doing lead generation, you should get to know your blog audience.
If you have ever seen a form next to a white paper, or even the form at the bottom of this post asking for your email, then you have seen lead generation.
The topic of lead generation is a forefront topic that many digital marketers are starting to get good at, but haven’t mastered it yet.
This creates an opportunity.
Opportunity abounds when you have a profitable blog niche.
If you were to do a lead generation blog, you’d probably build your personal brand rather nicely for a future career doing lead generation for companies.
Or even better, doing lead generation for your own digital marketing agency, where you can really build the profits per month to a comfortable figure.
After you write about the topic, you want to lead the conversation about the topic.
That’s called thought leadership.
You start by participating in the conversation, and adding value to existing ideas.
Later, you build your brand by adding your personal angle to the topic.
Soon, you lead the conversation, and establish yourself as a thought leader.
If you can do this, you can make plenty of profits with a blog.

It’s the difference between choosing to write about marketing as opposed to only social media.
If you choose lesser written-about topics such as lead generation, then you can establish yourself as a thought leader, as less people are writing about the topic and you can add your personal ideas.
